For weeks Ive been wondering why no one is talking about how Republicans sabotaged the ACA rollout by refusing to implement state run marketplaces, and thus unexpectedly forcing all of that additional burden on to the federal website.
It reminded me of Republicans denying security funding for Benghazi and then blaming Obama and Clinton for the lack of security in Benghazi. The media were oddly uninterested in that alarming fact.
But today, Todd Purdum at Politico exposed how Republicans sabotaged the ACA rollout. One small part of their plan was the rejection of the state run exchanges.
But also, Purdum points out, Republicans refused to fund the extra work on the website after the states refused to do their parts, leaving the administration to cobble funding together for Healthcare.Gov. Putting this extra burden on the website was a deliberate effort to cause the law to implode on itself.
But the bitter fight over passage was only the beginning of the war to stop Obamacare. Most Republican governors declined to create their own state insurance exchanges an option inserted in the bill in the Senate to appeal to the classic conservative preference for local control forcing the federal government to take at least partial responsibility for creating marketplaces serving 36 states far more than ever intended.
Then congressional Republicans refused repeatedly to appropriate dedicated funds to do all that extra work, leaving the Health and Human Services Department and other agencies to cobble together HealthCare.gov by redirecting funds from existing programs. On top of that, nearly half of the states declined to expand their Medicaid programs using federal funds, as the law envisioned.
The Republican manufactured shutdown on the very day of the opening of the exchanges further burdened the administration and disrupted last minute efforts regarding the rollout. This seems like common sense; its amazing that the media never asked Republicans about this in all of their incessant complaining about the website that they sabotaged.
And the cherry:
In fact, putting an excessive burden on the federal government was the explicit aim of the laws opponents. Congress authorized no funds for federal fallback exchanges, the Tea Party Patriots website noted as long ago as last December. So Washington may not be able to impose exchanges on states at all. The group went on to suggest that since Washington was not equipped to handle so many state exchanges, both financially and otherwise this means the entire law could implode on itself.
Youve got to read the entire piece, as I narrowed this down to the salient point that caught my eye since Ive been suggesting that the Republican states refusals to implement the exchanges placed an extra burden on the federal site and had an impact on the rollout from the beginning. Capacity is a huge part of any website. Their careful denying of funding and public plans that the combination of these forces would prove too much for the website and thus cause the law to implode shows their desperate dedication to destroying ObamaCare.
The entire two page piece carefully lays out the planned sabotage of ObamaCare. The Republican ability to surgically coordinate these plans and never get busted by the media is impressive. Or it would be if our media werent so pathetic. Their plan is still a fail, though, as a failed website was never going to destroy the law. Relying on their illogical, mad belief system is exactly why Republicans cant get their act together.
Republicans might not be winning the messaging with their constant destruction of everything in their paths, but they are hurting this country.
Typically, most Democrats including Kathleen Sebelius refuse to point the finger at Republicans. Its rude, childish and unfitting. Instead they play the grown up, taking responsibility because the buck stops with them. That is as it should be, but its a big fail in this political climate.
Democrats need to drive these truths home and force the media to cover them. Politicians are the actors and the beltway media is TMZ. Make a stir. Show some metaphorical leg. Point fingers.
Yes, it will be degrading and ugly, but the truth is that Republicans are never going to stop this they cant be taught to behave and put country first. They will have to be shamed by the truth each time.
This media is lazy and they like their narratives to paint the Obama (who refuses to do the beltway thing) as the bad guy. Thats fine for him, as hes not facing re-election, but Democratic lawmakers cant afford to let the media chase Republican narratives anymore.
If for no other reason than this is hurting our country, Democrats need to buck up and kick back. Drop some soundbites, craft a narrative, be outraged. Its theater, and the most dramatic wins when the media has turned into a Beltway TMZ.
Falls right in line with the typical liberal/progressive mindset...they have the sex, they have the baby, and we all get to support it for the rest of its life.
“The Republican ability to surgically coordinate these plans and never get busted by the media is impressive. Or it would be if our media werent so pathetic.”
“This media is lazy and they like their narratives to paint the Obama (who refuses to do the beltway thing) as the bad guy.”
Hmmm..........
Liberals turning on the Liberal Media?
Can anyone say “Useful Idiot?”
Who let this person out of the zoo?

Why are these TRAITORS not being charged with obstruction? They are trying to destroy this country and keeping those who really need health insurance from getting it.
Tim Robbins
Id like to see ALL the obstructionist of The Affordable Care Act tried, convicted and serve a long prison sentence.
Those @$$hole Republicans!! Poor Barack was only able to cobble together $650 million to fund the roll out. Everybody knows that $650 milion isn't nearly enough for a government funded computer project.
On another note - I have no numbers to back this, but you have to guess that this may be the most expensive computer project in history. Seriously.
Either this is satire or this women has mental health issues..
Not one Republican voted for Obamacare. It is the demoncrap's and as we go through the holiday season family members are gonna compare notes.
There is no way obama can recover from this once the people realize he is one huge liar.
I don’t think the GOPe has either the savvy nor the snap to “sabotage” the website.
“Refusing to fund” is the crime, I guess
But what about programs that ARE funded and go to $hit?
that is lack of MORE funding
So it’s not Bush’s fault?
I wish we were that organized, war minded and victory focused. Only the Tea Party ever gets close to that. What Tea Party members need to devise are ways to entice the Democrats and the Establishment Rinos to go after each other.
Provide fuel and tool for both sides to injure and destroy each other during certain campaigns. Rand Paul was sort of doing this last summer, by extending invitations to Christie to meet and make peace, only to be rudely rejected by Christie over and over. That only got so much millage, but it shows how easily a stuffed shirt like Christie can be baited to make a fool of himself. In such cases, the Tea Party will look to be the only adults in town, the only group with a plan to build, vs a compulsion to simply tear down. Ju-Jitsu, if you will.
I'm surprised that wasn't covered during Pelosi's secret meetings.
How could the smartest man in the whole wide world and the smartest man with the highest IQ to ever preside over the White House be taken in by those knuckle dragging Republicans?
This whole Health Car debacle is proof positive that progressives cannot even be saved from themselves. They are beyond all hope.
That's a pretty fair summation of just how shallow and superficial liberal political antics really are these days. Not a single word about actually fixing anything, only about how to make noise.
Now, that's fine when you're in minority, but that isn't the case here. This albatross was crafted by Democrats alone, passed by Democrats alone, and it is Democrats who are wearing its corpse around their collective neck. It's starting to stink, too, isn't it?
The problem with the monolithic approach the Dems took with this project is that in a tremendous rush they threw everything they ever thought they might want in one noxious package, closed the lid tight, and passed the thing as was, the details to be worked out later. "Later" is now. And what needs to be dropped in order to make it work is now non-negotiable. Not one step back, Comrades! And all that really happens is that the bird starts to stink even worse. And so the author wants simply to deny that it's stinking while she finds a Republican neck to hang it around. Sorry, sister, narrative and outrage aren't going to bring it back to life. This one's all yours. Enjoy your necklace.
sabotage = having nothing whatsoever to do with it
Speaking of firearms.
For anyone interested, Freedom Munitions has brass .223 55gr today and tomorrow for $99 per 250 & FREE shipping.
Time to start thinking ahead folks. There is another Sandy Hook on the left’s agenda. Bet on it.
I realize why you say hahaha, but this is not funny any longer. This propagandist that wrote this needs to suffer some serious consequences. She is a dangerous liberal that would cheer your march to the gallows. We should also cheer her suffering some of the same sort of consequences for taking this country down the tubes.
Man, if only the GOP were that organized.
They have to be delusional if they think the GOP orchestrated all of that, when the real fact is, the GOP on most days cannot successfully order lunch without bungling the job.
