My Toyota looks like it’s been through a war, high intensity conflict, in fact. But, with ~160k miles and no repairs beyond routine maintenance, I think I’ll keep her.
Jeremy Clarkson’s exploits in showing how much abuse a Toyota Hi Lux can take and still run sold me a lot on getting a Toyota. Love the Tacoma.

Yes, that was classic. My hat’s off to ‘em and I’m seriously considering a full-size Toyota for my next buy. If I were looking for a small/mid-size pickup I’d go Toyota and not look back. When I was younger, one friend had a classic early 1970s Land Cruiser and another had a Toyota pickup 4wd 4-pot. They were both great vehicles and I tried to buy the Land Cruiser off my buddy to no avail.
That is great but these high mileage claims mean nothing without the following information. Same engine? Same tranny? Is the body falling apart? would you be seen in public in it?
Generally, yes: same motor, same tranny. The bodies tend to last as well as long as you don’t let the salt get to them.
I can tell you from personal experience, you cannot run down a Toyota pickup with a company of Hummers.
They would shoot and run, we would chase, day after day.
Chadanese (is that correct?) fighters in Toyota trucks would attack Lybian tanks by driving a closing spiral at top speed until they could fire RPGs at the tank. It worked because of two factors:
1. The ground was flat enough and the Toyota fast enough, to stay ahead of the slow main gun swing rate on the old Soviet T-55s.
2. The Arabs in the tanks were too stupid or too frightened to pop up out of the tank and use their 12.7mm heavy machine gun, which would have decimated the attacking trucks.
Trucks have the ability to make heavy weapons mobile. That is always a plus, but I haven't seen one yet that could stand up to heavy machine gun fire.

Years ago, I bought an American Jeep Cherokee that I was proud of until it threw a rod at only 31,000 miles. Piece of junk. I switched to a Toyota Tacoma after that and I am on my second Tacoma pickup now. The first one I had for 12 years and 152,000 miles and sold it on Craigslist for more than the Kelly Blue Book price to the first buyer that called. I had a total of 35 people call within the first two hours of posting it. Popular truck.
I bought a newer Toyota Tacoma after that, and at age 66, this one I have now will be my last vehicle, I’m sure. It has served me well out here on our farm in rural Florida. It does everything our John Deere tractor will do almost. Our Angus bull tore off the passenger side mirror one day out in the pasture when I was using it to pick up some fallen tree limbs. A little beat up with a few scrapes and some dents in the tailgate, it is nonetheless the best utility vehicle I’ve ever owned. It’s never been to the mechanic and all I do is keep it oiled and greased and air in the tires. 102,000 miles and still going strong. They are great little trucks.
Sounds as with Arab armies inability to use combined arms. Infantry would of come in handy to stop the Toyota’s. I notice the same thing watching YouTune videos of the Syrian Civil War. See Assad’s tanks rumbling in an urban environment with no infantry support then some rebel with a RPG or ATM knocking it out from some rooftop or apartment.
Yep, good assessment. Tanks can’t go it alone and for some reason once you put a uniform on Arabs, they appear to lose all of their fighting spirit.
In most cases, yes. Toyota, Honda and Nissan, transformed what the customer expects from a pickup truck or automobile. A relationship with the car itself instead of a relationship with the manufacturer's car support. The American Big Three make better cars now because of their Japanese competition. There was a time when the Big Three only made junk so they could also repair it for you. It got so bad in the 1980's, they were making cars and trucks that couldn't be repaired.
I bought a 2001 camry with 140K for a beater. I think it will go to 200,000k with no problem. It does need a clutch, I will have to get one soon. Crossing fingers...
