Actually, gluten is added to a lot of foods. Deli meats is one the ones I remember that gluten was added to. I think the Cheesecake Factory adds gluten to almost all their food.

You both make a good point that gluten is in a lot of things that may not be apparent. It isn't just in cookies, cakes and starchy products. I just did a quick check of the Dietz and Watson website (deli meat manufacturers) and most of their products are advertised as gluten free. Of course I can't tell whether they were originally that way or whether they just got on the bandwagon (maybe as a result of my rant?) :0D

My point is this, perhaps not well expressed originally - most people don't NEED gluten free. It's just another in a long line of food fads that Americans have jumped into.
