REDLANDS (CBSLA.com) — An online ad led police to recover two seven-foot cow costumes that were stolen in separate burglaries at Redlands-area Chick-Fil-A restaurants.
According to authorities, the two trademark costumes, valued at $2,800 each, were stolen from the fast food chain earlier this year.
Robert Michael Trytten, of Riverside, was arrested on Oct. 30 for possession of stolen property.
Redlands police officers found an ad for the getups on Craigslist last week and contacted Trytten, expressing interest in buying the bovine suits for Halloween.
“When the seller told the officer that he had two for sale at $350 apiece, the officer replied that it would make the perfect his-and-hers costumes for him and his wife,” RPD spokesman Carl Baker said.
Officers arranged to meet Trytten at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of East Highland Avenue in San Bernardino.
The 43-year-old suspect was arrested when he showed the undercover officer the cow costumes.
Police also recovered a pop-up canopy stolen from one of the restaurants. All property was returned to the businesses.
Trytten is being held at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino on $275,000 bail.

I’m still trying to figure out how they came up with these two lousy cow costumes being worth more than five grand.
What sad times these are when passing ruffians can steal cow costumes from chicken sandwich shops. There is a pestilence on the land.
