Halloween Fantasy Turns Into Reality As Woman Beats Boyfriend Dressed As Domestic Violence Victim
CBS Local ^ | October 29, 2013

Masked avengers, sexy temptresses, pirates and superheroes — Aren’t all Halloween costumes a chance to act out a fantasy?

In one suburban Detroit incident, the fantasy reportedly came too close to reality.

Police say a Sterling Heights woman who was dressed as an abusive wife for a Halloween pub crawl she joined with her boyfriend — dressed as the victim — actually attacked him during a drunken rage and now faces domestic violence charges.

Clawson police Lt. Scott Sarvello called it “ironic.”

The Daily Tribune reported Cristina Crespo, 26, was arraigned Monday before Troy 52-4 District Magistrate Donald Chisholm on a charge of misdemeanor assault and battery.

Police said Crespo had a blood-alcohol level of .19 – more than twice the .08 legal limit for driving in Michigan.

Crespo first caught the attention of the law when patrol officers reportedly spotted her lying on the sidewalk outside Mojave Cantina near 14 Mile Road and Main Street during the pub crawl.

Police talked to her, saying she was obviously intoxicated, and followed her inside to check on her welfare.

She told them somewhere along the way she was dressed as an abusive wife, and was going inside to talk to her boyfriend.

“The officers they said if she hadn’t made that statement they would have had no idea what she was dressed as,” Sarvello said, adding the boyfriend had a stream of red running from his nose as his attempt at a costume.

“(It was) to make it look like he was bleeding,” Sarvello said.

After checking on the situation, the officer was leaving when he heard a commotion. Crespo was allegedly hitting and berating her boyfriend, screaming and causing a scene.

“She wouldn’t stop,” Sarvello said. “They were like ‘hey, hey, hey,’ getting her attention. The report reads that she was loud and belligerent.”

The detective added the restaurant owner told officers she had been assaulting the boyfriend in the restaurant earlier.

“Obviously, with the alcohol, something snapped,” Sarvello said.

Crespo is free after posting 10 percent of a $5,000 bond Monday. She is scheduled for a pretrial hearing in Troy District Court at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 6.

Until then, she was barred from using alcohol or having contact with the boyfriend.

One of the reasons I read this was to find out how one goes about dressing like an abusive wife. No luck there.

If he'd just waited a couple more hours, he could've saved the money spent on his costume.

If it were reversed everyone knows how the police would have acted differently. On first sight.

I am sure it’s all somehow his fault. He’s a man, it must be.

Your answer lies in the fact that all of them are. That's why a good number of them eventually get beaten up.

Me too. I guess you gotta do the old classic with the rolling pin, or frying pan. But luckily this dame wasn’t carrying a frying pan!

Sadly, too few women are familiar with a rolling pin these days.

I guess a male abuser costume would include wearing a "wife beater" top, would a female abuser wear that too?

Rolling pin? Whatever happened to the cast-iron skillet? It is a lethal weapon if ever there was one!

All wives are abusive? And deserve to be beaten up? That's just sick.

Sure, definitely. I don’t think a gal would wear that though, although my daughter and her girlfriends used to like to wear them.
