VANITY: Does Anyone Remember This Commercial?
self | 10-31-2013 | Raven6

Okay folks... I've had this eating at me for a couple of years and am to the point that I am seeking help from my FReinds.

Here is the deal... When I was a kid growing up in the late 1960's, there was a television commercial/PSA that was nothing more than a male voiceover and slow motion video of a hydrogen bomb explosion. Other than the voiceover, the only sound was a gong being struck everytime another "blossom" of the explosion would flare.

Does anyone else remember this? If so, does anyone with a better memory than mine have any further details on what was being said? The commercial mesmerized me at my age, and I was more interested in watching the explosion than in listening to the man's voice. It may have been some left-wing anti-nukes ad for all I know... But I am trying to find a video copy of it to show to my 9 year old son. I want him to understand the differences in the times we grew up.

THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU MIGHT PROVIDE!!!

Chief Jay Strongbow?

Otherwise known as Joe Scarpa. He was Italian.

I always remember the one where some space-age robot brought in a guy’s head in a box. And then I think the head talked for a while over which we heard the PSA part which was about the importance of exercise. (I think it was an ad for the president’s council on physical fitness, remember that?)

At the end the guy in the box was calling out: I’m ready to go now!

But I always thought, eh, head in a box works for me!

It ran ONCE on television during the 1964 Johnson vs Goldwater election. It ends with a little girl holding a daisy fading (burning actually) into the mushroom shaped explosion of a bomb.

The spin is that it played over and over. It did not. It has since been played frequently

Sure is one more example of leftists thinking the American people need to be treated like small children

It was the election after JFK had been assassinated and Johnson was revving up in Viet Nam (even more than Kennedy had). It was a disgusting ad. Goldwater was labeled as being a psycho who would drop the bomb on Russia.

As my dad said after the election had come and gone, “they told me that if I voted for Goldwater my taxes would go up, medicine would be socialized, and we would be sending our boys to die in far off lands. Son of a gun if they weren’t right”

Don't forget the Democrats did it again, attacking President Reagan, under Obama in Nov 2011.

"If Ted Kennedy had been driving a Volkswagen, he would be President today"

Faux Volkswagen ad in National Lampoon.

Ref:Iron Butterfly's new album called In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.

Can't remember just how old i was at the time (Approx 10 - 12 years old) but for Christmas I got a record player, and had asked for the album "Iron Butterfly's new album called In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida."

Played it every night, drove my parents nut's.

By the way, I still love the fact that the album had just In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida on one side. :-)

The commercial that I refer to had footage of the first hydrogen bomb, coded named Ivy Mike. While I have seen this one, it is not the one I am remembering. It is the initial blast of Ivy Mike that is in the commercial I remember...

You can view Ivy Mike footage here.

Goldwater add...”In your heart you know he’s right!”

Johnson comeback...”BUT, in your guts you know he’s nuts!”

“I WENT ALL THE WAY WITH LBJ!
Followed by a bumper sticker with a cartoon pregnant black woman..”I went all the way wif LBJ!”

Several years later it was Nixon...”NIXON’S THE ONE!”
Guess which bumper sticker again showed up.
