This Women "Dating for Dinner" activity is far more wide-spread than is reported.
I personally knew a highly-educated ($ 85K salary) attractive electrical engineer (Clearwater, FL) who told me that lots of single women do this, using dating as an excuse to dine at Berns, Salt Rock Grill, Capital Grill etc.
I was astounded, since many of these professional women had the money to take themselves out to dinner.
The single life, especially with the "seasoned female grifters" in their 40s and 50s ... is a nightmare for men.
No conscience, fewer morals.

I see it as an extension of the ‘free drinks’ scam some women learn in college. Pretty girls who get a lunkhead to buy them drinks all night in the faint (and always futile) hope she’ll go home with them.
Of course, to be fair, I know guys who think that taking a woman to the fanciest place in town is a way to “show off the peacock feathers”, so to speak. A good woman will enjoy dining at nice places, but you won’t win her heart with material flash. As you correctly say, it’s all about morals (or lack thereof).

I doubt it. Most women don’t seem to have much tolerance for going on a date with a man they don’t like.
