The letter is underneath a pile of crap on the kitchen table, so I’m going by memory, but it was an overall happy correspondence. They only want a few dollars more a month.
With the exception of the kids’ well visits, I’ve never filed a claim with BCBS. I’ve had a cash only guy we used for things like pink eye, allergies. I used a midwife and gave birth in the dining room ($2000 cash up front.) From what I’ve read about others, I think that’s partly why I got so lucky.
I’ve always been paranoid about “The Man” knowing my business. I don’t know why, or where it came from back then. I clearly remember after the first time I was robbed at a pharmacy at knifepoint in the middle of the night, I got an rx for klonopin because I was having these little panic attacks for a while afterwards. Something would fall over behind me, and I’d jump. And for whatever reason, even though I could have used the company insurance to pay for them, I paid cash. I didn’t want it “on my record.” I’m imagining these insurance companies being forced to examine every potential customer “well, they took so and so back in ‘08, they are a risk, put them in this category”.
I still believe this whole Obamacare experiment will become an unfixable failure. We’ll see all new options next year when the adults realize what a mess they have created.
I know what you mean about “the man.” I think most people on the Right have agreed that the healthcare system has problems. We just don’t like the Draconian/Orwellian fix that the Left is imposing upon us. There are simpler solutions.
