Did you know a Mad Max sequel was in the works? Dubbed as 'Mad Max: Fury Road' The fourth installment of the post apocalyptic franchise wrapped filming in mid December, and the slow trickle of production shots and concept art has started to trickle out to the public. This latest video features some on set footage from the shooting location of Namibia, showcasing a handful of deadly vehicles strutting their stuff.
Starring Tom Hardy (Bane) in the role of Mad Max, the new installment will take place 29 years after the latest installment, 1985's 'Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.' A few encouraging things to keep in mind for the 2014 flick:
- George Miller, the original director for the trilogy reprised his role as director for the fourth movie.
- A sequel to Fury Road is already planned, 'Mad Max: Furiosa.'
- Based off of what we've heard from interviews, there's a definite emphasis on not opting for a CG heavy approach for the new flick.
- Mel Gibson will be making a cameo as a character called 'Drifter.'

Video at link.
Reportedly, events in "Mad Max 4 - Fury Road" occur between 1st and 2nd movies. Therefore, the "last of the V-8 interceptors" still exists. It was destroyed in the second movie.

He’s still mad?! Maybe he needs an anger management class. He may be a rageaholic.

Hollywood won’t permit that. Now, it will be the “last of the non-plugin Hybrids”.

I like Tom Hardy.
Am a bit too young to have seen the movies as a kid, with the exception of parts of Thunder Dome. Then again, I was 28 when I finally saw Lethal Weapon. Perhaps its time for a trip to Hastings.

Second movie is my fave of the trilogy. Hard to envision anyone other than Gibson as Max. But Ill keep my mind open.

Hard to envision anyone other than Gibson as Max. Well, he's getting a little long in the tooth. At least they gave him a cameo. Stallone also cast Gibson as the villain in the latest installment of his Expendables franchise (along with, surprisingly enough, Harrison Ford).
Looks like the effort to rehabilitate Gibson is underway.

What few remember from the first movie was that it included some strong social criticism. The system had not completely broken down yet, and the worst parts were still functioning.
This could go a lot further with a prequel to Mad Max, showing societal breakdown, with people clinging to the past as the ship sinks, as it were.

Excellent point.
Especially considering that George Miller is directing Mad Max 4. Miller is the one who thought up the original trilogy so he understands the Mad Max story isn't just about guys in weird costumes and fast cars in the desert.
