I loved DD in te movies - especially with James Garner in The Thrill of it All and Move over Darling; also liked her in Calamity Jane with Howard Keel, and in the Glass Bottom Boat with Rod Taylor. She did good suspense films too like The Man who Knew Too Much.
She was in one suspense film where she was being threatened, and the culprit turned out to be her husband - but I cannot remember the name of it.
How about ‘Midnight Lace’ with Rex Harrison?
It displayed her talent as a fine dramatic actress.
Doris was one of the best ‘cryers’ in the business- along with Margaret O’Brien.
I read that she got herself ready for the crying dramatic scene by thinking of how her husband beat her and kicked her in the stomach when she was pregnant.
She became hysterical during the scene and had to take several days off the set.
