I did not know she was still alive, she did not age well. (at least not like Sophia Loren)

Really, I'd say she's doing just fine. She looked better in 2008 at 86 than Loren does today at 79.

She stood by Rock Hudson as his life wasted away from AIDS. Rock’s proclivities notwithstanding, Doris Day was a loyal friend to him.

Between that and her dedication to rescuing animals, sounds like she’s a good egg. God bless her.

Good God...another worthless showbiz denizen. Is it true that *every* star of showbiz (film,TV.music) over the last 50+ years has been an absolute filthbag?

What in this article makes you view Doris Day as worthless and an "absolute filthbag"? She sounds commendably compassionate and generous. Your standards must be pretty high.

I wanted to grow up to be Doris Day. I first encountered her on the radio when she sang with the Bob Crosby orchestra (Bing’s brother)on Saturday nights. She debuted in the movies later, and we found out that she was as pretty as she sounded. And always played wholesome roles.

She looks like Candace Bergen in this photo, and I dare say that Candace is younger.

The article sure doesn't support the title, so she retired, whats the big deal, she still answers fan letters and has friends and a life and a hobby.

I concur with your statement backed by the facts. Of course the worthies of the system within the United Kingdom, could well visit the quandaries of the aged. I must state that as a very young person, I do owe my life and health to that country and medical profession.

I was told stories by my older relatives of old people being carried crying to the "horspital" in the 1930's. They feared what might happen. We now know euthanasia was practiced by "withdrawal of fluids". I do not know it's frequency to be fair. Today there are ominous stories of "The Liverpool Way".

I would say the system is strained to the limit, who knows what then goes on? In closing I would like to say this lovely lady, who brought laughs to millions is presumably loved and cared for. I think of some lonely woman in my own native country and her possible ending as compared with Doris Day.

Please excuse my ramble on this subject.

Debbie Reynolds got rooked out of her money by at least 2 husbands.

Terry Melcher was also an intimate of Charles Manson as I remember. The murders occurred because Charlie thought Sharon’s home was Melcher’s. And therein hangs a tale...

Terry Melcher - the son of Doris Day - lived with Candace Bergan for many years. More fool she!

Her son, Terry, was not the son of her third husband, he was the son of her second husband, a jazz musician.

A onetime Big Band singer, best known in that endeavor for “Sentimental Journey”. Born Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff in Cincinnati, Ohio. (My mother used to have a dance lesson right after her and would pass her on the stairs.)

Thank you for that.

There is some evidence Doris Day was a conservative. She used to listen to the conservative talk station KSFO in the Bay Area, according to one of the hosts.

Before bashing all Hollywood types we should consider that they may be a political ally.

She owned the Cypress Inn in Carmel that used to welcome dogs to stay and the maids would bring special food, bowls, toys. etc.....plus it had a decanter of Sherry in the rooms. It was a lovely hotel.
