Funny, two weeks ago gas was $2.99 at the local QT. Then that Monday morning, wham, it was $3.17. Jumped $.18 overnight. It has wobbled around since then and then suddenly this morning......it’s $2.99 again.

The price of a gallon of gas use to depend upon the cost of a barrel of oil. That connection has been lost. The price of gas and the price of a barrel no longer seem to correlate.

It's "changeover" time -- from summer to winter blends.

Happens every year -- refiners have difficulty balancing their inventory and distribution (given the number of different summer and winter blends they must maintain). And they use pricing to ration and promote what they're short and long on, respectively.

Quit whining! It just went below 3.59 in northern Michigan.
