This is a request to Freepers out there. I'm hoping for a clear reference to a quote that I can only vaguely remember.
I seem to recall that it was from a female Democrat in a leadership position... Pelosi or Boxer or Feinstein, or someone of that ilk... to the effect that "...it doesn't matter if the Republicans aren't racist. As long as we keep calling them that, they stay busy trying to prove they're not, which allows us to win."
It was sort of an open-mike moment. Does anyone know the specifics of this? Where, when, and by whom it was said?
“Tainting the tea party movement with the charge of racism is proving to be an effective strategy for Democrats. There is no evidence that tea party adherents are any more racist than other Republicans, and indeed many other Americans. But getting them to spend their time purging their ranks and having candidates distance themselves should help Democrats win in November. Having ones opponent rebut charges of racism is far better than discussing joblessness.” — Mary Frances Berry, former Chairwoman, US Commission on Civil Rights
Thank you.
You’re welcome! I know what it’s like to have a nagging quote vaguely remembered that you must search for.
