Hey, Norm...good to hear from you.
If this was the case (as you claim), then please explain this quote of Joseph Smith's:
"God is in the still small voice. In all these affidavits, indictments, it is all of the devil--all corruption. Come on! ye prosecutors! ye false swearers! All hell, boil over! Ye burning mountains, roll down your lava! for I will come out on the top at last. I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet . . . " (History of the Church, vol. 6, p. 408-409). Smith quote in context
You see, Normandy...
...Joseph Smith contrasts...
..."the followers of Jesus" vs...
...his own followers in that last phrase ("never ran away from ME")
To hear Joseph Smith tell it,
Jesus of Nazareth was 0-for-1 at the plate being able to "keep a whole church together" [Joseph DID NOT say Jesus was 1-for-2 at the plate...having been "successful" in a second bid]...
...whereas Joseph says he himself was the LONE one church-togetherness wise.
It's Joseph Smith's church, Normandy...otherwise Smith would have given the credit to Jesus Christ for being able to keep the Mormon church together...he didn't...
Mormon Church's own History of the Church, vol. 6, pp. 408-409 proves it. No Mormon can erase such quotes from history.
(Furthermore, when we look at the "official" "First Vision" of Joseph Smith -- as laid out in the Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith History -- "Jesus" or "Christ" is NOWHERE id'd there as the One who appeared to Smith...That entity is nameless)
You pick one quote from Joseph Smith, and suggest that we teach or believe that Jesus Christ is not the focus of our religion.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Christ is the reason that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Everything we do and believe revolves around the fact that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, and that only through him can salvation be obtained.
