I don't care for soccer, however I am part of a small group of FReepers who follow the Tour de France cycling race every July (You can look for our threads then, if you're interested).

Yes, we despise the cheater Lance Armstrong, but overall, it's an interesting sports event to follow. No political commentary from the excellent US-based announcers on the NBC Sports Network. So far, anyway...

Soccer is like any other sport. You have to be vested in a team to enjoy it.

A baseball game between two teams you know nothing about nor care about most would find boring, even if they love watching the World Series.

And in this country, where soccer isn’t ingrained in the culture, as it is in England, it does require an investment of time to learn about the teams, players, traditions and history of the game. But I guarantee, once you become vested in a team and follow them, the game provides all the thrills and drama of any other sport.
