averages across baseball with runners in scoring position were at a low for the past decade.

I wonder why that is? Is there some statistical model the managers are following which they believe supersedes fundamental baseball tactics?

I think of it is probably a combo of factors: More players now who were raised not to play that way (can’t walk off the island and so on), more highlight potential (singles don’t get as much press), less rampant ped usage bringing the game back to it’s natural level where it is much harder to hit.
