what site were you going to? what virus scanner? have you tried noscript? others have suggested ghostery, but both noscript and ghostery do require that you page by page accept what you want to see. It drives me nuts because I can’t see video/slideshows on some pages and never figure out what they are blocking. But, I love them because they keep so much garbage off of my computer.
I wasn’t doing anything. I had 3-5 tabs open, and 1 or 2 of them were auto-updating, like Drudge. I had left the computer and was watching TV. I came back an hour or so later, and it had locked up.
Then yesterday, I was in the other room watching TV, and when I came back to my office, an error message had popped up saying something about running out of memory. I think Waterfox, like Firefox, does not release RAM as it does stuff.
I don’t have time to do what I know I need to do. I should reinstall Win7. I haven’t done that in about 4 years now. Arrrgggg.
I think I might have discovered the biggest cause, by the process of elimination.
I usually leave 4 or 5 sites up in tabs all the time. For the past few days, I have eliminated Drudge from that list and so far, after several days, no lock ups.
I am leaning toward concluding that there is something about the updates on Drudge, coupled with the usual Firefox/Waterfox refusal to let go of RAM, that were causing the lockups.
