I have a Gateway that is about 6 or 7 years old. Uses Windows XP. Runs very slowly. Should I upgrade to Windows 7?
For now at least I need to use a Windows OS.

Windows 7 will probably run faster on it, but you need to make sure you meet the minimum hardware requirements, AND that there are Windows 7 or Vista drivers available for your hardware. In my case it's more of a licensing thing, old hardware and needing to R-console into the box I'm putting XP on. Otherwise I'd be using 7 or 8.
You can download a program from Microsoft that will tell you if your hardware is 7 or 8 worthy.
