Word For The Day, Buctober 8, 2013
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
ploce [ploh-see]
-n
Rhetoric the repetition of a word or phrase to gain special emphasis or to indicate an extension of meaning,
[158090; earlier ploche < Late Latin plocē < Greek plokḗ plaiting, akin to plékein to plait
I’m thinking of Britney Spears doing the butter churning thing on SNL back before she was crazy.
I don’t keep a passport, because I haven’t traveled in awhile, but I’ve always kept a few pesos-about $20 worth-and I have the same amount in Canadian bills, left over from when MrT5 and I visited relatives of his in Quebec-that was maybe 14 years ago, but I don’t get rid of perfectly good money.
If the poor woman who was killed had that stuff in a lockbox, and if she knew that she was getting close to a meltdown, maybe she planned to travel to Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, whatever to get her head together-maybe go to a psych facility there for rest and counseling-it is usually cheaper than here, and I’ve heard that they treat clients better, too.
People do that all the time-even ordinary ones-who don’t want to cause their families a lot of fuss, or listen to a ration of crap from them. She had a good job and could probably afford a mental health vacation.
I could be way off base with this-but I do think it is a possibility...
The kids at that school don’t have much imagination, either with that Trayvon nonsense-would it be so hard to come up with a theme that is actually creative and FUN-it is a homecoming, not a drama club tribute to Greek tragedies...
I don’t see that it is, either-I was curious enough to go to some college textbooks I still have about all the political influences in the Dark and Middle Ages, and read some of the chapters on similar situations in the Church and Papacy. It wasn’t pretty at all-I truly don’t want to see any of that happen again-our Faith is so important to so many of us, and the world is in a precarious state-I don’t see this as the time for another Vat II to cause a possible schism...
I am so disquieted by the political situation and fate of our country, and this just makes me feel that my church is equally disquieting. I really think I need to talk to Father DeCelles about everything.
That sounds like a great idea-wish I could, too.
In the third paragraph, she makes my point.
The GAYS! and NARAL thanked the POPE.
I would respectfully submit, that disarming your enemies is the first step in winning any war.
How many times does the obvious need explaining?
Yes they have a happy slappy pope. What a win.
We will see if father decelles agrees. I’m
Thinking no.
Nino does.
What do you make of the new pope?
Hes the Vicar of Christ. Hes the chief. I dont run down the pope.
Im not inviting you to run down the pope. But what do you think of his recent comments, that the church ought to focus less on divisive issues and more on helping the poor?
I think hes absolutely right. I think the church ought to be more evangelistic.
But he also wanted to steer its emphasis away from homosexuality and abortion.
Yeah. But he hasnt backed off the view of the church on those issues. Hes just saying, Dont spend all our time talking about that stuff. Talk about Jesus Christ and evangelize. I think theres no indication whatever that hes changing doctrinally.
I spent my junior year in Switzerland. On the way back home, I spent some time in England, and I remember going to Hyde Park Corner. And there was a Roman Catholic priest in his collar, standing on a soapbox, preaching the Catholic faith and being heckled by a group. And I thought, My goodness. I thought that was admirable. I have often bemoaned the fact that the Catholic church has sort of lost that evangelistic spirit. And if this pope brings it back, all the better.
Lucianne interview with Scalia.
Also, ask Fr. Decelles, the larger point. Not giving your enemies ammunition, and converting the souls you can get in the Church.
(Since that is what the Pontiff actually said)
Believe me. He will know what the pope has said.
You ask him what you want, your point is not mine.
I just quoted it?
