Ok, so get a load of this story: xshub was in NYC on Friday and flew late aft to Syracuse to see xsboy play. he rented a car at the airport. Saw xsboy’s game, he played well, but they lost in a shootout. He took him to dinner etc. There was a second game on Sat aft at 2pm and then they were going to watch Clemson blow out SU, he got seats on the 50 yard line. So xshub gets up and goes to the mall first thing for a haircut, bc he is traveling this week and knew he would not have time when he got home. He is on his way to xsboy’s game, it’s pouring, and he is involved in a 4 car pileup. 89 yo woman tries to merge on 81, causes this pileup, he’s car #3 in the chain, calls me [girls and i are at a bridal store] and then sits through the police report, goes back to the car rental place and is en route once again to the game, he is on the phone with me and i hear him shout WHAT WAS THAT, and i hear someone else talking, he relates to me that a passerby stopped to tell him that a kid threw a railroad spike off the RR track overpass in downtown Syracuse, it shattered the entire back window of the second rental car. This all took place literally in a 2 hour window of time. He called the police, but a plainclothes cop pulled up next to him and asked him if he had been SHOT. he explained what had happened, so the guy said, we are kinda tied up with the game etc, so he led him back to the police station where he filed ANOTHER police report and returned once again to rental car place where the people at the desk stood mouths AGAPE at his story. Then one of the guys jokingly said, oh give him a car with high mileage this time! That was thankfully the end of his travails. He got to xsboys’ game for the end of the third period and they saw the second half of the blowout with Clemson. He got home yesterday in piece. and he brought the spike home as a souvenir.
Good grief. What a saga.
talk about terrible luck.
Thank you! We didn’t get but 1/2 inch of rain with the cool front, but that is okay-I’ve had the A/C off for two days for the first time since June...
Good God-you can kill someone with an object dropped from a height like that-I’m glad he is unhurt! I have a collection of old railroad spikes I started as a kid, and they are not small. I’ll bet he is glad to be done with that trip...
Omigosh. I’m glad they got the back window and not the front! He was very lucky indeed. It would make me a little reluctant to go back there until it’s time for graduation though.
