Way back in the early 90s at Firebird in Phoenix, there was a 1964 Ford Thunderbolt there as an exhibition racer. Apparently, on Friday night's qualifying, it blew the clutch at the line. The bell housing caught most of it, but a chunk bounced out the bottom, off the concrete launch pad and up and over the stands into the pits. No one was hurt, but you just never know what can happen. We were there Saturday and Sunday for the main racing and talked to the owner/driver about it.
I was at Indy a few yrs ago when a blower belt off of Kalittas
Car landed not far from us.Not as bad as a housing flying
but bad enough...they’re heavier than you’d think.
Always wanted to attend Firebird.
