Today's feature would make the late Senator Jesse Helms proud. Set in post-Civil War North Carolina, Gary Cooper plays an ambitious tobacco farmer who fights his way to the top to become a powerful cigarette tycoon. Patricia Neal(as the icy, aristocratic southern belle) and Lauren Bacall(as the proverbial "rooming house" proprietress with a heart of gold) play the women in Cooper's life. Directed by Michael Curtiz("Casablanca").

Gary Cooper was an awful actor IMHO...yet he is in most of my favorite movies. Go figure.
