United States v. $35,651.11 (The cash in the account of Schott's Supermarket) Feds Seize Family Grocery Store’s Entire Bank Account

Can the government use civil forfeiture to take your money when you have done nothing wrong—and then pocket the proceeds? The IRS thinks so.

For over 30 years, Terry Dehko has successfully run a grocery store in Fraser, Mich., with his daughter Sandy. In January 2013, without warning, the federal government used civil forfeiture to seize all of the money from the Dehkos’ store bank account (more than $35,000) even though they’ve done absolutely nothing wrong. Their American Dream is now a nightmare.

Federal civil forfeiture law features an appalling lack of due process: It empowers the government to seize private property from Americans without ever charging, let alone convicting, them of a crime. Perversely, the government then pockets the proceeds while providing no prompt way to get a court to review the seizure.

On September 25, 2013, Terry and Sandy teamed up with the Institute for Justice to fight back in federal court. A victory will vindicate not just their right to be free from abusive forfeiture tactics, but the right of every American not to have their property wrongfully seized by government.

Lots of good background info and a short video on this case are on the website. Check out the other cases they are fighting too. Encourage them however you can, their fight is not an easy one.

It doesn't happen often (hell,I ain't no John Heinz Kerry) but when I conduct a transaction that's anywhere near 10K I always make sure I round it up to $10,001 so that it gets reported.I've been burned once by the tax man (they claimed I owed $29K when,in fact,I owed $80) and I'm too old to tussle with them again.

My wife and I own a small business franchise. Our accountant contacted us with projected numbers after the new taxes (and lost deductions) kick in for next year. We have opted to not renew our franchise and will close it next year when it expires, as I'm in business to make money, not lose it. My wife and 2 employee, as well as the service we provided to the community will be gone, in the most part due to this administrations war on small business...

Nice job barry-boy, you won...

What do you think the RFID chipping program embedded in the Unaffordable Healthcare Act is for?

This is and was the purpose of the IRS. American Gestapo. America have you seen and suffered enough yet? Or are you still their dogs?

There is an RFID program in ObamaCare?

I’d love the details. Can you post them. Yes. I believe you.

And I’m sure an analysis of the Fed’s seizing bank accounts will reveal a bias against conservatives as it did earlier this year when they held up approval of 401c3 status of the Tea party etc.

I know— this notion that everyone should be tracked, catalogued, pigeon holed.... down through the ages it has always been the desire of the “ruling class” to do so.

TV must be watched with a discerning eye/ear.

Time to brush up on Bradbury’s “Farenheit 451” where the protest against the state and mind control was for the undergound to hide in the woods, and each person memorized a book, and became that book/story.

Science fiction pre-dates potential reality.

The RFID program was SUPPOSED TO be implemented by 2013 under the ACA original draft. Implementation deadline was delayed until 2017 under the current law.

Yes... according to Obamacare, by 2017 everyone enrolled in the “system” is required to have medical id/info chip installed.

Of course they don’t talk about this because they know the Christians won’t comply.
