Weather is still nice here in the Chicagoland area (was 75 or so today); and we are still working to find an easy, inexpensive way to cover our tomatoes as they are growing very well and look great; they seem to like our new place [their location] which we moved into Sept. 1&2.

The walking onions are all coming up now, and I've grabbed a small sampling of their greens. Extremely tasty. There are beets coming up, swiss chard, radishes, and some lettuce too.

Screw hooks into the fence, then use 1/2 or 3/4” PVC, with elbows on the ends & Tees every so far, then attach long pieces into those sockets, to construct a lean-too frame, and cover with heavy gage clear plastic. Maybe use thin strips of wood (tongue depressors or popsicle sticks) with staples to attach the plastic to the fence itself, both across the top, and down the ends. Anything to weight down the bottom edges, and you’re in business.

Those walking onions are the best, our patch has been going for about 15-17 years now. If you can let some of them get big - they will be about 1/2 the size of a leek - try them on the grill, just oil them up and salt and pepper them. They are sweet! Also the seed heads will get bigger over time and can be peeled and used like shallots.
