This new song by Keith Urban is just amazing. It is about the America we all love here at Free Republic. Nice to see there are real artists with talent who still love God, family and country.

Keith Urban is an Aussie. Figures we need outsiders pointing out to us how far we’ve strayed from our values.

My wife and I saw him in concert a few years back. He’s a natural on stage and it was a very good show, even for folks like us who aren’t big fans. Carrie Underwood opened for him, and while she has a great voice (and is a looker for sure), Urban put on the better show IMO.

So why the Dixie accent?

Usually people who do the ‘pretend Dixie’ thing do it to mock Americans and especially to mock Conservative Americans...

So this guy found a way to cash in on it, instead?

Sounds good.

When Keith first came on the scene solo, I didn't care for him much. I thought he was just another pretty boy the record companies were pushing. But I have become a fan of his music. He has REAL talent. I relate so much with so much of his music.

Go to the 30 second mark of "Raise Em Up" and then listen to

Somebody Like You

Yes. One of the few musicians who actually write their own material too. I have become a huge fan since being introduced to the music by my wife a few years ago. I don’t feel guilty listening to it.

Relax. Just enjoy the tune. He certainly isn’t mocking anything. I would rather pay guys like him to record music than 99% of the crap today (or yesterday).

I saw an interview with Def Leppard one time. Joe Elliot was saying, that when they worked with Mutt Lange, he taught them to put certain vocalizations in there music, LIKE COUNTRY MUSIC does.

They did, and look what it did for them.

But there is something about the way Aussies speak that allows them to sing southern style country very well.

Before making it big on his own, he was Garth Brooks touring guitarist.

Back then he was considered the best "guitar for hire" for somebody touring.

Keith is still the man in my book. He was asked to write a song for "Act of Valor" and co-wrote this song for the movie. Great song.

Country music is funny. There are TONS of songs that espouse our way of life and our views. And a great many of the artists live (to some extent) the views they sing of. But there are many who are just Nashville creations and Nashville is controlled by NYC and is closely related to Hollywood.

I’ve known Aussies who came to this country and rather quickly (within a couple of years) had ditched the Down Under accent and adopted something close to wherever they were living.

Talking that way just requires too much energy IMO.

"Nice to see there are real artists with talent who still love God, family and country."

I hate to use this thread for a shameless self-plug, but there are a lot of us conservative/patriotic artists out here, just waiting for a little help getting discovered. It's not just country, either, but rock, metal, acoustic, even hip-hop. You can find dozens of us at the Big Dawg Music Mafia (bigdawgmusicmafia.com). You'll find not just music there, but painting, sculpting, writing, just about every type of art there is...and it's all done by conservatives/patriots.

Here are just a couple of samples from my own project, 10 Pound Test. They're just scratch recordings, but they still kick a**. Hope you like 'em.

So why the Dixie accent?

If I didn't know where the Rolling Stones came from, I would swear from the accent in which they sing that they hailed from somewhere west of the Suwannee and east of the Brazos.
