I tend to read things literally first, and pick apart and analyze any undercurrents at my leisure-probably a bad habit. That said, there are just some things that don’t need “selling” in my opinion.
At the beginning, gaining converts probably required some sales ability on the part of priests of the early Church-in Rome, the merging of festivals of multiple gods with Christian ones-Saturnalia with Christmas, Easter with the pagan Spring festival, All Saints with Samhain, etc. And even in the new world, adopting some new “saints”, and Dia de los Muertos/All Saints/Halloween, etc-that was back when the Word of God hadn’t spread far and wide yet.
But that isn’t necessary any more-either I embrace my faith, or I do not-the teachings of the Bible and the Church are a huge part of faith. If people need a non-converting, religion with leaders who accept moral relativism as long as it makes friends, then there are plenty of other churches to choose from that are ok with anything and won’t say the word “sin”.
I tend to not bring up those examples, but you are 100% correct.
In this case however, while kind of the same thing, its a softer sell, though in this case, is fighting an active enemy.
I don’t think that an enemy is overcome or converted by offering to accept moral ambiguity to make friends-that is only capitulation, and that is defeat. Both Jews and Christians have done everything to accept muslims and their beliefs since after the Crusades and Reconquista of Spain-and that certainly hasn’t worked out well-the bastards imprison, torture, and murder Christians and Jews, even after over 700 years...
I don’t think accepting any and all who don’t accept a finite morality as converts for the sake of getting along isn’t going to work out any better. I don’t anticipate the hand wringing community activist bishops to agree that charity lies with the churches and private donations, or the Nasty Pelosis to repent their views on abortion, or all the homosexual and lesbian couples to agree it is not right for them to be “married” anytime in the next few hundred years just because they are not told that they are committing a sin...
But that is my point, he is talking about governing,
Not theology.
Looks like this generation might have been passed down by someone who could be a sort of meme:

I’m not referring to the mother, who’s a meme for moonbat.
I just re-watched “half measures” on Netflix. A masterpiece that starts with the pseudo-spsychadelic 60s song about Windy.
I suppose if you marry your adopted daughter, you can’t really complain if Frank Sinatra impregnates your wife.
Except.....They should have moved the sitdown with Jesse, and the Hank scene, ahead of Mike the Fixers soliloquy , so the commercial break was in between the speech, and the last scene.
Way more powerful. The interlude with the detritus between those two scenes, drains some of the intensity.
Lmao.
can someone please put up a thread. I promised SG i would sub for her, but i cannot find the template on my home computer, getting weird error msgs. thanks!
I’ll do it.
No I’m back in your debt!!
I think I’m turning into my Mother - nothing tastes like it used to ! lol Sorry you had an issue - I haven’t been to a Friday’s in a long while. No wait, when I went to work with my husband in June we hit a Fridays in Albuquerque and it was disappointing.
