Where were you in the 1970s and 1980s?
I can remember at least five occasions where we were warned in mid-September of the upcoming events...no pay check after 1 Oct. We grumbled. The on-base bank promised to honor checks we wrote and simply hold them to the side. In almost every case....by the 7th day of the shutdown....things were fixed and we were paid by mid-October.
Everyone seems to have some short-sighted memory. It was a regular thing to occur thirty years ago. No one got terribly upset...mostly because of lack of 24-hour a day news coverage. I think the President and his staff are thinking that news coverage will turn the tide for them, and hurt the Republicans badly.
The issue is...can the President stay in DC for fifteen-odd days and avoid the blame-speeches? I don’t think he’s capable of that....and if he travels around the US while we are shut-down, he’ll look awful foolish. If he plays the blame-game....no one will believe the journalists as they attempt to explain this.
History is repeating itself...except this time, the President loses another notch on his appearance scale.
Just a personal observation, but this doom-and-gloom cycle that keeps being played out...doesn’t work no more. You could allow fifty ambassadors to be shot by Muslim fanatics, allow Joe Biden to get into a fist-fight with a midget wrestler, and announce that Jay Leno is the next White House press spokesman. It doesn’t matter. We don’t take any of this serious anymore.
I remember only ONE time there were no paychecks and I remember gratefully that our bank Nation’s Bank, assured all direct depositors it would go ahead and posr a credit into our accounts equal to the last paycheck
One reason I stuck with Bank of America all these years
I figure the sh won’t hit the f until the ebt cards fail to load
