A litter of 5 or 6 pit bull mixed puppies was turned into the local dog pound which immediately put down the whole litter. The response from animal rights and pit bull defenders wackos went all the way up to the Mayor’s office. He said in defense, “They are pit bulls!” Normal people understood.
There are difficulties in banning the whole “breed” because it isn’t actually a breed according to dog associations like AKC, because there are many mixes that may be able to contend that they aren’t “pit bulls” so can skate away from any law and because if you start with one breed, what other breed of the 350 or so will be next. The Police say that druggies like to keep them to defend their drugs or warn them of anyone approaching.
I agree with others on this thread that the whole Terrier group is bred to hunt down and kill. Even a bite from a small Jack Russell Terrier can be bad for a child. Even Chihuahuas can be nasty. It is better to pick a dog for a child by size and temperament than by breed. Even then a pup needs training.
In another case on a video from Florida news after a kid was bitten by a large dog, a Rottweiler breeder said “No one should ever leave any big dog in a room alone with children for any reason!”
Nobody should have a child around a Rottweiler!
