C-alt-D doesn’t cause a reboot, it just opens the task manager and other tools. I think it is fine the way it is because you never hit it by accident.

I never had a problem with it either.
They have made it easier now - right click on the task bar and it gives you the option to open the task manager.

C-alt-D doesnt cause a reboot, it just opens the task manager and other tools. Ah, but it used to.

"Once upon a time when I was young ..." Ctrl-Alt-Del was *the* way to reboot a DOS PC. :-) There was no other way shy of hitting the power switch or pulling the power cord. And, to be sure, it was a good thing it took three keystrokes to do it. A single key reboot would have been disastrous.

I had Windoze Millenium. On that, Ctrl-Alt-Delete caused a hard reboot.
Now I have Vista. On that, Ctrl-Alt-Delete gives me a “desktop,” from which I can choose the Program Manager, Restart, Shut Down, etc.

C-alt-D doesnt cause a reboot, it just opens the task manager and other tools. Chuckle. It didn't start out that way.
Things have not always been as they are, and they will not always be as they are now.
My first 286 16 had DOS 3.1 on it and a manual that may as well have been in a foreign language when I first opened it. Ctrl-Alt-Del had a little more dramatic effect than it does now.

Back in the old days when it did cause a reboot, my cat walked across my keyboard and hit all three keys. I still think he did it on purpose.

In all versions of DOS Ctrl+Alt+delete forces a reboot.
This included the early versions of Win 3.1.

Apple has a brilliant design solution. On MacBook Pro laptops, the power button is flush with the deck so it is very hard to press accidentally. A single press brings up a dialog box asking if you want to restart, sleep or shutdown. Hold the button down about 10 secs and you get a forced-restart.
Option-Cmd-Esc brings up the “Force Quit Applications” dialog box to quit the rate hung app.

Holding Ctrl-Alt-Del will soft boot the CPU.
