Maxwell, my lionhearted dachshund15, has been gone for almost two weeks. He was the last and third red for me. I have gotten up in the morning crying and gone to bed crying every day. This thread has brought back some great memories of the younger years of my doxies, and a much needed smile to my face. Max took some skin on several occasions from a few men who he felt were a threat to me. He loved to leap and go for their behinds.

Our Dog, a Chow, would wait until the Murderer left and would feed on our Corpses while enjoying a nice Chianti.
Hundbearpig?
You have me rolling on the floor laughing with that one.
I wish BatDad could have been there to save the day!

My 80 yr old aunt in coastal southern Oregon was alerted to a chimney fire in the middle of the night by her weinerdawg, saved her life. Lost the log home though.
Two years later, he got into it with a black bear in the back yard of her rebuilt home. The dog got clawed and cut, but the bears keep their distance any longer. The little hero is fearless.
Some friends have a dachshund that liked to mix it up with the larger dogs (as in some rough play), and earned the respect of the larger dogs.
The other day, I noticed a couple of wieners on leashes off for their morning walk around the neighborhood. They were so alert and self-confident with their chests “pushed” high, looking like they would take on the world. They are so darned cute, I chuckled as they passed me, but I have great admiration and respect for these dogs.
When I was a very little girl, I was terrified of dogs and would run inside if I saw one a block away. My parents bought a wiener dog we named, “Dutch”. He was very sensitive to my tears. Within days, his determined coaxing and gentleness calmed me, and I was able to hold him against my chest. I still have his little collar from the 1950’s. I owe Dutch a lot, rest his soul.
(((HUGS))))
