I've been able to pay it forward, and then pay it back. By circumstance & choice, I did not marry. I did, however, become a surrogate dad for two girls from a severely broken home. Twenty years on, they have their own families and children, and also the permanent scars of their parents’ selfishness. And as my mom & dad fell ill, I became the primary family caregiver. The years of their decline & deaths have taken a serious toll, but I now know it was God's plan that my life should unfold as it has. Still in grief and working to recover, but thankful for the trial.
And perhaps why we both are drawn to the video of little Adelaide & her dad. I've learned from my surrogate daughters’ offspring that there is no better feeling than a loving child's arms wrapped tightly and gratefully around your neck.
