For the first time since 1992, the Pittsburgh Pirates are in MLB's postseason. The Bucs clinched at least a spot in the wild-card game after a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs that ended with a bizarre play at the plate, and a 4-3 loss by the Washington Nationals to the St. Louis Cardinals. The loss eliminated the Nats from contention.
The Cincinnati Reds are playoff-bound as well, after beating the New York Mets, 3-2 in 10 innings. The focus over the regular season's final six days now shifts to the NL Central race, which the Cards still lead by two games over the Pirates and Reds.
Lost in the NL happenings Monday: The Detroit Tigers were unable to clinch a playoff berth in the American League. They lost, 4-3 in 11 innings, to the Twins in Minnesota.

Tribe wins! Giambi pinch hit, two out, two run homer in bottom of the 9th. Indians win 5 to 4 over the White Sox. Season series now stands at Cle 16 wins vs 2 loses.
Bye Bye No-No!
I don’t see it happening for the Rangers. Even if they sweep the Astros, I don’t see them doing as well against the Angels.
They have been far too inconsistent this year. Dunno if Wash will keep his job, the Dave Magadan HAS to be fired.
Rangers need to hope Oak sweeps the Angels and spoil any chances the Angels can finish at least .500.
There is blame all up and down the Rangers roster this season, and in the front office. :-/
“Bye Bye No-No!”
Hello win!. Two game lead with four to go
Not over yet. Though Cruz getting in trouble certainly didn’t help.
I can’t believe the Rangers are even thinking of resigning Cruz....He’ll be useless without the juice.
Beat ‘em Bucs!
Break out the Green Weenies!
Rays stomp Yankees 7-0 and temporarily gain the Wild Card lead.
No help for the Rangers, tonight.
Tigers are frustrating this year. With their talent (and payroll) they should’ve finished the season with 110 wins. Tonight’s game is lookong good, so far, but I was surprised to see the Indians only 4 games back.
On the other hand, it’s really cool to be able to pull a relief pitcher out of the hat in the 8th inning and have his first 3 pitches clocked at 101, 100, and 101 mph
Rangers did their part. No changes in the WC situation tonight.
Big mistake not sitting him with the hip flexor problem back in July. Nobody picked up the slack to give him rest...not only that, they're just too inconsistent all around, especially with the one problem they've had for years...plate discipline.
Also..."TEAMS" tend to win championships...having an MVP, Cy Young, etc. means nothing...if the supporting cast are less than average ballplayers.
Then there's Leyland...
Bucs all alone in second now.
I finally saw it on the highlights...Yep, not much doubt about that one.
LAA Vargas with a gem against OAKLAND.
complete game shutout. 110 pitches. 29 batters, 2 above minimum.
RED SOX NATION applauds!
SEATTLE with a 5-hit shutout of ROYALS.
Paxton, raw rookie, just up this month.
