A man in Somers, N.Y., hatched a plan to catch the individual responsible for allegedly stealing his pro-gun signs repeatedly from his front yard. He bought a trail cam, set it up near the sign — and then waited.

When he learned that his sign had been taken yet again, he was elated because he knew he had finally caught the person responsible on camera.

He just didn’t expect that person to be a uniformed police officer.

Busted, that cop is screwed. Trespassing and multiple thefts.

What a jackass. I hope this guy loses his job, his pension, and everything he has.

If accurate, this is one officer who should end his days working behind the counter in a donut shop, but I bet the PD will stonewall and drag out any investigation until people forget and lose interest. The citizen will also probably get a lot of extra attention from the PD, zoning and anything else that can be used to retaliate.

Which begs the question, what is more important to this and like minded individuals, the Constitution which they may also took and oath to uphold, or orders from a potentate and keeping their pension....

That property owner will have everything from IRS swat teams to armed librarians descend on him, in addition to swarms of Trayvons.

He’ll be lucky to live.

Cop will justify it with some remote ordinance about small road signs within 5’ of plant life or something like that..

I used to spar with a friend over law enforcement, but eventually conceded most of his observations; the truth was, he had seen how abusive and corrupt the system could be, while I had been too much of a goody two-shoes to experience it for myself.

Despite being caught on camera in an unguarded moment, I'd still believe this cop giving testimony on the stand. I'd trust to his sense of fairness and impartiality. I'd automatically assume his oaths meant something to him. I'd cut him slack because of his sense of professionalism. His tact, his courtesy, his intelligence, his commitment to individual freedoms... all attested to and implicitly believed in by yours truly.

Or not.

Even if it were in violation of a town ordinance, I would question the actions of a uniformed police officer to remove this sign.

Does Somers PD also pick up old sofas?

Unbelievable, according to the following article it is not illegal to take signs in Somers, NY. The police will say it was too close to the road and therefore on public property
