A 2 1/2-year-old boy was killed and a babysitter was injured when they were caught in the middle of a dog attack Sunday morning, Gilbert police said.

I can tell you one thing, I guarantee they weren’t Great Pyrennes.
You don’t “own” dogs. They couldn’t give a rat’s *ss what you think you “own.” Dogs are pack animals. You may be a pack member. You may be the pack leader. The problem comes when you try to anthropomorphize the relationship into human terms. The other dogs were establishing who mattered in the pack. The girl and the boy didn’t matter in the pack mentality. They were illuminated from the pack.
Pitbull mixes.

Pit bulls and warrior dogs deserve to be respected for the job they were bred to do. When you take a dog bred to a specific task (being an aggressive warrior) and make him be a "little buddy" in a family of humans, you're disrespecting the dog, just as it disrespects a smart, active border collie or Australian shepherd to make it be a pet in some tiny city apartment.

This should be required reading for anyone getting any type of dog. Bichon frieze is not an attack dog and a Pit bull is not a suitable playmate for a toddler.

Had this babysitter had all bassett hounds instead of all pit-bull mixes, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
That's why when people say, "It was the owner, not the dog," I have to just sigh. Oh, really? Then why, if was the exact same owner, would the outcome have been entirely different if ONLY the breed of the dog had been different? A druggie with a pit bull: potential death. A druggie with a basset hound or a toy poodle -- potential pain in the ass. Same owner, different dog, VERY different outcome.
It's all and only about the breed of dog. I HATE the idea of banning pit bulls. I am against breed bans. I am for personal responsibility. People who opt to own as pets dogs bred to be warrior protectors (pit bulls were smaller originally, but must have been wonderful dogs for pioneer settlers), should be responsible for the consequences, including someone like me shooting the dog on sight if I see it running loose anywhere other than on the owner's property.
