Preppers’ PING!!
Any type of sustainable Gulcher type dealy would require younger people as well... otherwise it’s merely an prepper’s retirement community...
On the other hand, I always envision the unskilled starving hippies on the commune in Easy Rider... and I picture these dopey millenials in Ugg boots and skinny jeans as the modern equivalent. No skills... but they did watch Bear Grylls and have a backpack and BPA-Free water bottle.
Read two interesting books that relate to this subject:
“Going Home” and “Surviving Home” by A. American. Although “One Second After” addresses some of the issues, these two books explore the issue much more completely and are both good reads.
The Oath Keepers have started an effort called “Sleeping Giant.” Last Saturday’s meeting was about sustainability, but I think next months meeting will be about bug out bags.
I’ve long felt that the “lone prepper” was dystopian in more than one way. Not that one shouldn’t be able to do that, but there’s a humongous factor that’s gotten short shrift here: the Lord. Who makes the audacious promise of always furnishing, as asked, what’s necessary to glorify His name. Always. Always. Always. There’s your cornucopia. Don’t despise Him!
I think a church would be the ideal unit to prep. And that they should prep in such a way as to be able to take on at least a limited number of unplanned extras, putting usefully into play the work of the others. But most of all they should prep with the gospel once a reasonable amount of physical provisions have been stored.
“Prepper Island” sounds like a good idea for a game show. Like “Survivor” should have been... you get to bring a certain weight of supplies with you, whatever you want. Whoever lasts longest with no outside help, no special prizes, wins the money.
