THE WILD SIDE: It's a scramble for the two AL wild-card spots, with a half-dozen teams trying to claim them. Texas, Cleveland and Tampa Bay are at the top, but wobbling.
Pinch-hitter Justin Morneau's single sent Pittsburgh over the Cubs 3-2 Sunday, leaving the Pirates even with St. Louis for the NL Central lead.
WHAT'S THE FORECAST?: Wicked weather always seems to wreak havoc at the end of the season. Cleveland waited out a rain delay of nearly 4 1/2 hours in Chicago before beating the White Sox 7-1 Sunday night. Just watch - somewhere, a storm will sweep into another stadium at the most inopportune time.

Go Red Sox-—that is all! :-)
.
Actually I’ve even taken to the Bosox THIS year, I have a big beard so need I say more, they’re not that hateful mess from before plus the Flyin’ Hawaiian is there and Phillie fans will always love our fast talkin’ friend.
And don’t forget Koji.
We just lost though.
.
Gotta love him but IT needs to get him on and see how he compares to Mune Kawasaki.
“The St Louis Browns became the Baltimore Orioles in 1954,”
That would be second Balitmore Orioles franchise. The first Baltimore Orioles (1901) were one of the original eight franchises that formed the American League.
In 1903 the team moved to New York and became the Highlanders. In 1913 they switched to the name New York Yankees.
“I dont know what happened this year, never seen such good talent underperform so badly for so long.”
As an Angel fan I feel your pain.
After that there was another Baltimore Orioles franchise, a minor league team....they had a player, who was born there, whose name escapes me, I think he's the guy they named the candy bar after.
One mention of beisbol on here and the Freeper fans come out of the woodwork. Now we have a beisbol thread for the next 12 days ... this board is filled with Nats fans ...
Indians grab the lead in the 8th ... the top game of the night.
White Sox get in the mix again next week vs Cleve and Cubs will also be in the middle of it. Which is probably unfortunate.
Tigers finally won over the Mariners 6-2.
Meanwhile, a whopping 10,786 in Tampa tonight.
Yeah, I remember that guy.. his parents sent him to St. Mary’s Industrial School for Boys when he was seven... he went on the be one of the best pitchers in baseball history and still holds some World Series records for pitching as I recall..
Pitched for the Red Sox, right?
I didn’t catch the numbers but it looked like a full house at Comerica park. Somewhere north of 40,000.
“Pitched for the Red Sox, right?”
That’s the guy!
What’s most amazing is that while everyone knows about Verlander and Scherzer, look who has an even lower ERA, Sanchez.
But Verlander needs to regain his dominant form in the playoffs.
Wouldn't it be a network ratings nightmare if the Indians and Pirates played in the series, be a cool series though and Swisher and Martin can wave at the Yanks at home.
Verlander’s biggest problem is the fact that he just happens to be the guy who doesn’t get the run support this year. He’s actually becoming more of a strikeout pitcher. It makes Scherzer the ace this season but you’re right about Sanchez.
Jhonny Peralta will be back for the last week and he’s a serious bat.
Most enjoyable thread I’ve seen here in a long time, not to mention how pleasantly surprising it is to see so many FReepers are baseball fans.
Adding the second wild card team has done an amazing job of keeping things interesting to the very end.
It really is the perfect game, (when played by National League rules)
GO DODGERS!!!!
Cleveland wins, stays a half game out for the 2nd WC.
Yu Darvish would love to have Verlander's run support. Four times he's lost 1-0 this season.
