Actually, we have several and they are American yardsticks, although one is 48" long so it's just a long stick.
I am watching BB from the beginning and still don't like it very much but I'm making the effort to see why my kids like it. I've never watched a show where I can't root for a single character.

I don’t know how far along you are, but in the early days I think you’re supposed to appreciate Walter for how quick-thinking he is. And his sad lot in life is supposed to make him sympathetic, too.
He applies a little of his chemistry teaching to real life, has his former student sell the stuff. Make a little nest egg for the family. How complicated could it be?

If you are making the effort, try to fixate, on the evolution/devolution of Walter. And as you go along, take notice of the criminal acts, of those in his circle. (see above).
Everyone who finally sits in judgement of Walter, has comitted direct criminal acts.
