You...NEVER mention Sandusky's family, his friends, his Second Mile Associates, the university president, the Athletic Director, the cops.... and others who had to at least suspect what Sandusky was. NOBODY did anything about Sandusky, but it's all the old coach's fault. Yes sir.

You'd think being "El Wrong-o" on your previous "NEVER" would have taught you to stop trying to be omniscient on these threads.

I've mentioned the others indicted...Schultz...Spanier...Curley ... [Penn State's personal three Musketeers] NUMEROUS times on various FR threads.

And, of course, unlike JoePa, who got all the benefits of the doubts from authorities, they all are facing charges. [But not JoePa]

3)Why would ratting out a retired coach as a pedophile be bad for Joe's or the football program's image?

Why? I can name one key thing right off the bat: Because for a VERY LONG time post-Penn State years...Sandusky had ongoing campus privileges @ Penn State...including bringing boys to showers & other places on campus.

childish name caller

Well, let's see..
you referenced me as "stupid" in post #75
& Lancey labeled me (& others)...
..."little worms" and "nobodies" in post #74;
"shallow little circle-jerkers" in post #71;
he called others "shallow little scum" in post #67...
...and for some reason YOU engage...
...in name calling ("childish name caller")...
...but fail to reference your fellow Penn State rah-rah boy (Lancey) or yourself re: engaging in what your referencing?

How hypocritical can you get?

(But, hey, I understand...with some college identities...especially sports-wise...it almost becomes a cult...for example, just look @ those beer commercials where Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" song plays in the background as they all do weird things -- oft' in cultic unison)

Penn State was recently ranked the 8th best public University in the country by Forbes, and 37th overall.

So what? Before the NCAA vacated 111 of Joe Paterno's 298 wins, he was the 2nd best winningest coach in the country. What? Do you think some Top 10 ranking constitutes either Penn State's OR Paterno's legacy now?

As went Paterno; as went the Penn State admins on trial; as went Sandusky...so went the Penn State image.

Likewise, the University of Indiana could rise to #1 on that Forbes list you cite...and stay there for centuries to come...and it still won't shake the reality that this university sanctioned -- and harbored -- a man who authorized baby & toddler & child sexual abuse...all under the guise of sexual research...

Read/see for yourself:
* How Alfred C. Kinsey’s Sex Studies Have Harmed Women and Children [Big 10 harbors perp culture]
*
How a Kinsey victim lives with molestation trauma: 'Esther White' interview exposes 'evil' scientific research: Part 2
* The Children of Table 34

Whether Kinsey actually did ANY of the direct sexual abuse on babies & toddlers & children is irrelevant. He sanctioned it. He included it within his "research."

JoePa was no "Kinsey"...but when you become a silent co-conspirator to keep things quiet, you engage in a cover up...becoming a part of the very problem.

Do you really think almost any Hoosier booster/fan cares about these sexual abuse victims umbrella'd under Kinsey? And how their "beloved" university has sanctioned it all & elevated/exalted Kinsey?

Hardly. They could give a _______'s ass about them.

In fact, when pressed, Indiana officials engage in the same type of apologetics Jopologists do. They deflect. And the one thing that Indiana & Penn State apologists have all in common is that they rarely mention the victims...and when they do...they usually cite the one victim that didn't lead to an exact conviction of Sandusky.

Do you know how that lack of compassion for these child sexual abuse victims comes across to people who've never bent over backwords to worship JoePa as some "iconic idol" or the Nittany Lions as some campus superheroes?

If anyone cares about the victims, or children in PA, they will seek the truth, and put the focus where much of it belongs - on the failures of the local and state departments and agencies.

The same OAG that prosecuted js was responsible for overseeing his charity. CYS and DPW allowed him to adopt 6 children and foster dozens more.

Blaming a dead football coach does nothing to protect children in PA.

And the key question this thread began to focus around -- since it was both YOU and LANCEY HOWARD who directed the thread Paterno's way -- is whether JoePa should be exonerated from this mess.

I mean the original piece (NY Times) upon which is thread is based mention paterno only once. And that by mere reference to who this Penn State prof emeritus was discussing.

It wasn't posters beyond the Penn State rah-rah Jopologists who jumped on this thread to direct the convo toward Paterno. Nope. Lancey Howard's first two posts on this thread (#s 9 & 10) mentioned Paterno. And then YOU raise the following question in post #11: "Do you believe that Coach Paterno was a part of the conspiracy to conceal — to cover up the crimes at Penn State by Jerry Sandusky?"

So keep all this in context. YOU raised the question; so deal with our opinions on it.

Secondly, the very headline of this thread deals with Penn State's IMAGE...which can't be shed by merely pointing to Paterno's deadness, or pointing to the bars Sandusky is behind...bars about to be extended as a "welcome wagon" to others STILL on Penn State's payroll books...well, to update that tech-wise...still on Penn State's payroll software.

Which, in turn, brings out key questions:

If Penn State leaders could fire Paterno, why didn't they fire the athletic director Curley? Why didn't they fire Spanier as a tenured prof?

Why not Penn State? Why not FlJoePa? Why not Lancey Howard?

If they are even more responsible for Penn State's mess than JoePa, why did they get off the Penn State hook?

Answer the question...

And if Penn State was so concerned with its image, why was Spanier still on its payroll 10 months ago (& perhaps even now for all I know) & Curley just a few months ago??? Why?

I mean sure, Spanier stepped down as Penn State prez, but he kept his tenured faculty position.

So, here you have...
...Spanier as STILL a Penn State employee (he went on leave Nov/2012 once he was indicted...not sure if its merely "leave" or "paid leave")
...and Penn State had Curley as a PAID employee on "PAID leave" up thru Spring (or so) of this year (http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8718495/trial-hearing-delayed-penn-state-administrators-graham-spanier-tim-curley-gary-schultz)

Curley's contract, I believe...per the above ESPN source...ended as of the end of the 2012-2013 schoolyear

“And how did Sandusky access his victims? Through an infrastructure created by Penn State and its institutional fetish for football. Why did he get cover? Because Paterno was God and all his works Divine and so no scandal or scrutiny must be allowed to intrude. Everything must be hushed up and buried lest the football program money diminish.”

Yes, we have a winner. Well said and damn the apologists.
