The penalties against MWR had nothing to do with the spinout, it had to do with the pitting on green to change the race order so Truex would make the chase. Insufficient evidence on the spin to penalize it.

The spinout had everything to do with it. It's like getting Al Capone for tax evasion because you couldn't get him for murder.

In rebuttal to what some have posted on other threads, it's not like spiking the football to get another down, or throwing the ball out of bounds to stop the clock.

Most leagues have in their bylaws the requirement that organizations field competitive teams, meaning that they have to meet a minimum capability to play, and they have to play to win.

Slowing down and giving up position, points, and prize money is not playing to win. And it's not the same thing as a team that secured a playoff berth fielding their second-string to rest their starters.

And it's not the same thing as a team with a big lead slowing down and not scoring anymore. At least their not simply dropping the ball and letting the opponent take undue opportunities.

You don't see teams running the ball into the other team's goal. You don't see pitchers lobbing easy pitches so that a friend can break a hitting record.

And you shouldn't see drivers slowing down to let a friend pass for points, or fake slowing down by taking an unnecessary pit stop.
