COLUMBUS, Ohio Needing a victory over Mexico and a little help from Honduras to punch its ticket to next summer's World Cup, the U.S. took care of business Tuesday, riding second-half goals by Eddie Johnson and Landon Donovan to a 2-0 victory in front of a raucous 24,584 at Columbus Crew Stadium.
Then the Americans retired to their locker room, where they watched Honduras and Panama play to a 2-2 tie, assuring the U.S. one of CONCACAF's three berths in Brazil. So when the dressing room opened again an hour later, it smelled of champagne.

The vaunted Mexico team is 0-4 in my old stompin’ grounds of Columbus, Ohio.
The U.S. players had to wait until the Honduras-Panama match ended to punch their ticket to Brazil. Honduras tied Panama, 2-2, solidifying the Americans’ seventh straight trip to the World Cup.
No se puede...
USA turned it up a notch in the second half. We miss Michael Bradley.
Well done USA!
Nice! I wonder how many of the 24,584 were rooting for Meheeco though?
Still, a good win. Mexico is no slouch at futbol.

Let me put it this way. Mexicans born in America were rooting for Mexico too
So what? I know guys that have never stepped foot in Boston that are diehard Red Sox fans, and I root for the University of Nebraska just because my dad’s from there.
Illegal immigrants and many of their kids have NO loyalty to this country whatsoever.
“So what?”
As of now, Mexico would be out of the World Cup.
They play Panama next, who is in fourth, on the basis of more goals scored....If Panama wins or even ties, it’s pretty much over for Mexico, since Panama hosts the US in the final game, and I suspect the US will send a pretty inexperienced squad there, with nothing at stake.

He may wind up playing against his Dad in Brazil. Egypt is perfect in their WC qualifying so far.
Not many, it was solid "Red White and Blue" in the crowd....That's why they schedule the game there.

A small handful were sporting the “El Tri” colors.
Someone on another forum asked the question why didn’t they schedule the game at a NFL stadium (for a bigger crowd) instead of the smaller Columbus Crew stadium. The short answer was that the USSF wanted to ensure a “home crowd” for the US soccer team and not turn it into an away game for the USA in the USA.

Wouldn’t that be something? What a game to see.
I didn’t realize that rooting for the right sports teams was a requirement. I’m a Seahawks fan - is it OK for me to cheer them on even though their logo is derived from Canadian Indian woodcarving, or do I need to shift my allegiance to the Patriots? What about all those “Fighting Irish” fans? Should they be shunned?
You’ve missed the point! They are still rooting for American teams.
Congrats USA. Bump for good news.
