The head of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said Congress must seize on a "once-in-a-generation" chance to pass comprehensive immigration reform when it comes back from its August recess next week.
Writing in the New York Daily News, Timothy Dolan, who is also archbishop of New York, invoked Pope Francis and Martin Luther King, Jr. in arguing that immigration reform would help families and the economy while improving the country's security.

Your Eminence, no it must not. Stick to church matters please.
Anyone getting tired of these so called Catholic leaders demanding the US congress break the law?
Dear Cardinal,
Will all due respect, stay out of Ceasar’s realm.
When’s Biden showing up for communion?
So the Church rolls over on Obamacare and same-sex marriage, but pushes amnesty.
Congratulations Dolan. You have jumped the shark.
I see it helping Mexico's/Latin America's families, economy, etc.
Why don't the Amnesty pushers call for better living conditions (freedoms, etc.) in Latin American countries?
This morning along with Pelosi, Kerry, Cuomo and half the Kennedy family.
Once in a generation? There was 1965, then 1986 and they tried hard to do it in 2006. And they want to do this “once in a generation” just one more time? Are they really that hard up for new members?
This is exactly what is driving this push. More new members, more bodies in the pews, more donations. It is as simple as that.
The Cardinal needs to stick to his job which is saving souls and leading the church leaving politics out of it. He wants to aide lawbreakers who go to church and tell the Lord they love him, and they walk out of church and steal money from American citizens with welfare and other freebies their own country would not give them.
Do your job Cardinal and when you finally come face to face with the Lord he might just let you stay.
How I wish Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen was still around.
It isn’t that the Church doesn’t have the right to speak on this subject. It’s that Dolan and many other bishops are WRONG on this subject.
The teaching of the Catholic Church is that immigrants have an obligation to respect the “spiritual heritage” and traditions of the host country. But immigrants to the U.S. DON’T respect these things: They overwhelmingly vote for the most anti-Christian, anti-life, anti-Constitutionalist politicians.
Nobody has the right to enter another country and then overwhelmingly vote to put baby-killers into public office.
Just as it has been in the past, this is about opening the doors for more Roman Catholics. He would not be calling for it if the nations south of the border were overwhelmingly Protestant.
He can speak about whatever he wants, and I will call him out when he is advocating breaking the law.
Wouldn’t his words be better used to raise the living stands of the countries mentioned, instead of advocating the destruction of America.
Caesar was Pontifex Maximus of the State Religion of Rome, just as every pope has been.

And Rome still believes herself above all the kings of the earth.
Shut your stupid mouth, cardinal.
