I learned about the same amount on my sports teams in HS as I learned in actual HS. Competition, giving it your all, getting up after falling down, teamwork, time management, leadership, commitment and about winning and losing. Throw in some college scholarship bucks and sports were well worth it.
But did you have your mommy ready on the sidelines to run in and pounce/berate the coach when you played poorly? My coach kicked me in the butt, slapped me across the head, yelled to motivate me, and even cursed. My parents would laugh if they saw it.
My Marine Corp drill instructors fresh from Vietnam were not nice either. I don't know how I survived before the wussification of America.
I disagree. As a executive and performance coach for 22 years, i find little value in team mindsets, and individual success. Entertainment does not hold much meaningful value.
