Agree. Having permanent bases in Iraq would not have stemmed the chaos we see today in the Mid East. We have the ability to base all around the Mid East. Gibraltar, Sigonella, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Crete, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Djibouti, Diego Garcia. Not to mention Israel. Not even mentioning carriers and Marine flat tops.
International finance? Yeah, pretty much the bane of everyone be they leftist or right-wing. That international finance can be government controlled or black market, whoever is flashing the dollars around.
