the granite is supposed to be going in today, hopefully they will be completely done by Tuesday. Here’s something i wanted to ask the assembled class. How deep are your kitchen cabinets? I noticed last weekend when we were starting to put some stuff away in the new cabinets, that they were shallower than what was taken out. There are a few bowls that i kept in cabinets above that will no longer fit because the door won’t close. At the end of the day, we are increasing the cabinet space by so much it won’t matter, but what it does mean is that i can’t put stuff away exactly where it was before bc things won’t fit the same way. I mentioned to the contractor and he said that 12” is standard and he had not noticed that what he had taken out was 18” [that strains credulity, but i do believe him]. The cabinets which were in there were what came from the builder, according to Mr B, anything deeper than 12” is custom. i have a hard time believing the builder provided custom cabinetry but maybe he did. The lower cabinets are obv 18” and i will just have to keep the bigger stuff in those. But it was disconcerting.
Mine are less than 12. I keep my larger bowls in the lower cabinets, too. Although, I do not have extensive cabinetry.
Who's the anal one now? ;-)
Now I'll have to measure my cabinets when I go home. Thanks.
You have got to be excited-I hope the granite completes a perfect look.
The cabinets above are 14” deep, and the lower ones are 24” deep, but I had a cabinetmaker I worked with build them, making the lower ones extra deep to hold big bowls and cooking pots. I like the look and usefulness well enough that I’ll have the same guy build the same cabinets again for my nest.
I just measured and my cabinets are 12” but the actual space for dishes is 11” - bottom cabinets are, of course, deeper so that is where my platters are stored
We were gypped. Our upper cabinets are only 11” deep and the lower ones are 22”. I guess if I had more room, I’d cram more stuff in them so it’s just as well.
