Glad to see that NASCAR did the right thing in assessing huge penalties ($300,000 !!! the biggest in NASCAR history against Waltrip racing, plus) and putting Newman back in the Chase that he deserves.

But what about Jeff Gordon who was snookered out of the Chase by ONE STINKING POINT?!!!

Very valid point. Just re-read the action by NASCAR and the issue that MWR was dinged on was Vickers pitting which allowed Logano to bump Jeff Gordon. From Nascar.com:

“Additionally, Vickers’ unscheduled pit stop in the late going allowed Joey Logano to gain a position, helping him race his way into the top 10 in points. Logano edged Jeff Gordon for the final spot based on the standings, and freed up a Wild Card spot which went to Truex.”

Nothing in there about the spin but you can read a lot of conversation into a $300,000 fine.

I agree, they need to let Gordon into the chase. It’s not fair to rectify the situation with Newman and not with Gordon, especially when they say Vickers pitting was the pivotal conversation that made NASCAR take action.
