BTW, I live in Sicily. July marked the 70th anniversary of the Allied landings here. Driving around this island, there is virtually no flat ground, i.e., the terrain certainly favored the defenders, and I have the greatest admiration for the guys who took this land back from the Germans. In only seven weeks...

I haven’t spent much time reading about it, but I thought the movie “Patton” compellingly portrayed some of the difficulties Patton encountered and overcame in his march to Messina.
