In all fairness, this should be described as several young *black* men who are honest. While the media sidesteps that they were black, by their honesty they should get some local recognition and appreciation. They are role models.
And this really matters, here’s why.
Some years ago, a businessman opened up a bagel and doughnut delivery service for other businesses, with the idea that it would work on the honor system. While this worked fine for most of his customers, a couple businesses had a problem with people taking bagels or doughnuts and not paying for them.
So, with the cooperation of those businesses personnel departments, he put up hidden cameras to find out who was being dishonest. Several people were identified that way.
But then, the head of personnel for one business noted to him that each of the people who swiped bagels or doughnuts was already under suspicion for much more serious thefts and other offenses.
After firing them, the amount of theft and other crime at those businesses dropped to almost nothing.
This gave the bagel and doughnut dealer an idea, to shop his bagels and doughnuts to companies with the intent to spot *dishonest* employees, possibly saving these companies thousands or tens of thousands of dollars in losses from other thefts. What’s a few bagels and doughnuts worth?
In effect, he discovered that if people would steal little things, they were likely to steal big things. And this is why these young black men being honest is very important.
It is why they are role models.
Because it means that more than likely, if given positions of trust and authority, they will not abuse those either.
As such, they are *very* employable, even more so than their peers of *any* color. Once identified, they move to the head of the list for the kind of employees companies desperately want to have: honest ones.
And what better local recognition and appreciation than high quality job offers?
Interesting story.
Unfortunately, of course, many high-paying jobs (outside of government) require more than honesty.
