Note that the honest visitor was what some around here euphemistically call “Amish”. This sort of stuff rarely makes the news. Many choose not to participate in the subculture, despite the influences from the outside.

Note that the honest visitor was what some around here euphemistically call “Amish”.

The "Amish" dig was originally meant more as an insult to the media than urban blacks. It was meant to point out how the liberal media would bend over backwards not to reveal the race of young urban black perps in their reporting, but had no problem in any other crime story saying a "white male". An example: "Hmmm, this story says three perps named Deshawn, Jamal, and Lamont were arrested for assaulting someone in Detroit and stealing their Air Jordan's. Story doesn't say so I guess they were Amish..."

But I would agree that it has become a bit overused and often just to refer to urban blacks in general...
