I was under the impression that scene served strictly as motivation for him to go back and get his money, thus reclaiming his Empire...not so much to exact revenge on Gretchen and Elliot for saying he wasnt important. I agree with you.
I think the scene was there just to kick old Walt back into Heisenberg mode one last time.

yep...although perhaps not just for revenge (against jack & co), but also for redemption somehow. His son had just told him to FOAD, and his old business partner saying the sweet old walter white is dead. Perhaps it’s also an “I can show them I’m still a good person” trip.
