Movie for a Sunday afternoon: "Marnie"(1964)
You Tube ^ | 1964 | Alfred Hitchcock

Today being Sean Connery's 83rd birthday inspired the pick for today's feature. The only time he and master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock collaborated on a film. Here Connery deals with difficulties of having a wife who's a kleptomaniac. "The Birds" veteran Tippi Hedren(Melanie Griffith's mother) plays the icy blond title character but personally speaking I prefer the film's brunette 2nd leading lady, the lovely and underrated Diane Baker.

“You’re aching my leg!” has become a family joke. But I always liked this movie. Actually, I just really like Sean Connery. :-)

Recently watched a truly bizarre Connery film on Netflix, made after he’d already been in several Bond flicks, so presumably not desperate for work.

“A Fine Madness.”

Who’s gonna save the world when Sean Connery dies?

I’ve read that he was worried about being typecast & deliberately took some rolls that were not in keeping with his mega-star status. I can’t remember any titles, off-hand. But I tried to watch one & it was awful! Even SC couldn’t improve it.

He was in his in his trying to break away from Bond typecasting phase.

It wasn’t a financial success on its initial release so I wouldn’t be surprised if you hadn’t heard of it.

Alan Napier(later Alfred the Butler on TV’s “Batman” series) plays Connery’s father in the film.
